Oil platforms jobs: hard to work but well-paid

In this time of high unemployment in Italy and more generally with the crisis, it is difficult to find a job, especially well paid. But there are certain types of work that do not know about dark moments: for example, work in the oil industry, such as platforms petrolifre. Working on offshore oil rigs is, as you can imagine, very risky but well-paid if proportionate to the type of activity.

One of the professions without doubt the most profitable, but also one of the most stressful, is carried out on oil rigs. Jobs and activities on offshore oil rigs are interesting, but it requires a great deal of self-control, stress resistance and patience.

The oil platforms can be of two types: those fixed and floating. The first ones have also a function of refinery platforms, while those floats are often used for those that are defined drilling-test.

Since the platforms look like real small beach towns, it is necessary that you have all of the professionals, such as nurses, office workers, professionals concerned with mining operations, engineers, maintenance personnel, divers, geologists, catering workers, kitchen staff and radio operators. There are also specific figures as the driller and roughneck, those that deal with the delicate task of assembling the drill pipes.

Those who work on oil platforms are forced to work in shifts from 12 hours, for about 16/20 days per month, followed by a rest period of two weeks. The salary usually is around 3 thousand USD per month. The high monthly wages are linked not only to the hardness of the work, but also on the contract. In fact it is a contract-abroad which, by its nature, is still higher. Given the hazards of the profession, the risk of injury is high, but at the same time the security measures are observed. From the standpoint of contributions, taxes are often those of the country where there is a platform and not that of the employee. The costs incurred by the oil Company are the food and lodging, work clothes and the cost of the flight there and back.

In addition to having a degree in engineering or geology, or medicine, you must have a high resistance to stress, a high degree of self-control, knowledge of the English language, the passport, aged between 25 and 35 years, good physical condition and a great ability to relate to their peers, with which you will be forced to spend most of the time. By virtue of this, you must begin to enter the industry with short-term contracts, so get used to the different way of life.
